Computer Classes
Monday, September 8th through Monday, October 27th

All classes will be taught by Vyvette Altaras, who is a computer training specialist with a masters degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a 15-year career in computer software training and instructional design.

Please communicate directly with Diane Nicole with any class requests or if the time listed does not work for you. We are able to insert new classes provided we have four people registered. Advanced classes can be accommodated based on demand.

Registration Information Computer Classes:
Registration begins August 2008.

  • All registration is on a first-come basis
  • Payments must be made to hold a spot
  • Each class is limited in size
  • Class offerings can change due to registration and need
  • We must have a minimum number of 4 students for a class to take place
  • All persons age 55+ receive a 50% discount

MS Word Basics
A course for those with little to no word processing experience. Students will learn the basics of Microsoft Word including creating and formatting documents, bullets, lists, and templates using cut, copy, and paste techniques

File Management and Saving:
This course will teach students about file types and back up methods. Students will learn how to save and organize files, create folders, and burn files on CDs.

This course for children teaches typing (using the Mavis Beacon typing software), MS Word, PowerPoint and internet search techniques to help children accomplish their schoolwork.

Internet Basics:
A course for those with little or no Internet experience that will cover basic aspects of the internet including providers, connections, browser functions, utilities, layout, browsing, navigating, bookmarking, printing.

Photoshop Beyond Basics:
The user will be introduced to more advanced Photoshop tools like clone stamp, background eraser, and special effects as well as changing the background of a photo, fixing photos and applying Photoshop recipes.

A course designed for those with some computer experience in Organization, maintenance, saving (locally and externally), personalizing your computer, clean up and defragmenting will be covered.

Digital Camera:
In this course, students will learn to upload pictures from their digital camera onto the PC. Also covers basic picture editing techniques, thru Picasa, the free photo storage and management software as well as internet photo sharing sites.

Working with Publisher:
This course provides an introduction to the desktop publishing tools in Microsoft Publisher to create greeting cards, brochures, newsletters etc. Document layout techniques and text and image manipulation utilities.

Web Page Development:
* Students must be familiar with word processing & Internet, and have basic knowledge of Windows or Mac. This course aims to introduce students to navigating and publishing on the internet and creating documents in Word or Excel for publication on the Web.

Learn how to create, and manipulate a spreadsheet to record data, perform basic calculations, create charts.

Intro to Quicken
Introduces students the QuickBooks accounting program and computerized accounting. The students will receive hands-on training in the use of QuickBooks using fictitious case studies.
